Meals on Wheels Mission
Statement: Our Mission is to enable low-income, elderly, disabled
citizens to remain in their homes and to be self-sufficient and
independent of continuous care by providing home based care. We
accomplish this goal by having dozens of dedicated volunteers deliver
meals to our homebound citizens. Not only is a nutritious meal
delivered but a daily contact is made by our volunteers to check on our
citizens who may be in need of assistance. Numerous times our
volunteers while on their delivery routes have helped our citizens who
were in need of medical attention.

Program Objectives:
1). Delivery daily hot nutritious meals which contribute to the
consistency of our citizen's health.
2). Enable our low-income, elderly and/or disabled
citizens to remain in their homes and independent of continuous care
facilities by delivering a hot meal to their home.
3). Maintain a daily personal social contact with the
citizens we serve which helps to reduce the isolation and loneliness of
our citizens as well as provide a daily check on their physical well
being.

Services provided in
Wilbarger County by Meals on Wheels:
Meals on Wheels provides one hot meal each day (Monday through Friday)
to approximately 106 of our community's low income, elderly, disabled
citizens. We served 26,563 meals during 2005 expect to serve more
than 28,000 during 2007. Approximately 86% of our program is funded
by the Texas Department of Human Services with the remaining 14% to be
funded by the community through United Fund donations.
